Why name the building the Elson S. Floyd Cultural Center?

Naming the building after the late Dr. Elson S. Floyd seemed fitting to commemorate his contribution to diversity and his vision for this new building.
Why the location?

Dr. Floyd envisioned the Cultural Center as a welcome at the entrance of the university which would signify the university’s dedication to diversity as a land-grant institution. The location as a part of the gateway to the university is a part of this mission.
